Can’t physically get to one of the summer writing workshops at Yale, Wesleyan, Breadloaf, Iowa, etc? Consider taking an online workshop.
Online workshops can be a good way to force oneself into doing the good, hard work necessary for developing oneself as a writer. I’ve taken a couple myself at the Lighthouse Writer’s Workshop, as I found it hard to get myself back into writing after I had a kid. (Deadlines can be wonderful!) This summer I’ll be taking one from a place called “The Poetry Barn” on creating literary hybrids, as I’m an essayist with a poetry background and am hoping it might free me to go into some new directions….I’ll blog more about the workshop throughout July.
