“Holy Thursday: ‘Twas on a Holy Thursday, their innocent faces clean,” by William Blake

(poetry diary  235-4/13/17)  I went looking for poems about Maundy Thursday, or what I’ve often heard called “Holy Thursday,” and found these…which it turns out are actually about “Ascension Day,” which this year is on May 25 but which, as I don’t regularly go to church, I will probably forget about. But it’s all very interesting so I’m posting about it now.

On  Holy Thursday (or rather, Ascension Day,) in London, 6 thousand orphans from charity schools would be marched to St. Paul’s Cathedrals to sing.
