(Poetry diary 110) The last images of this “December 7” poem by Kate Greenstreet have been haunting me today. I don’t “get” the poem, but I recognize the feeling in it that one gets from, during a time of trauma, running into someone one used to know.
I’ve also been looking for poems about Pearl Harbor, in honor of this Remembrance Day. Walter McDonald has written a few. One:
The Winter They Bombed Pearl Harbor
The winter they bombed Pearl Harbor,
my brother finally let me follow
up the deepest snow drift in the town.
Each blizzard whipped between two homes.
