(poetry diary 65) I thought of this poem, “Ode on the Whole Duty of Parents,” a lot yesterday, when thinking of children and elderly parents & times when adult children must take on parental roles for their own parents.  “You, the unstable, must become a tree….”

The spirits of children are remote and wise,
They must go free
Like fishes in the sea
Or starlings in the skies,
